Dr. Donovan Kirkwood

Dr Donovan Kirkwood has worked as an ecologist and biodiversity conservation specialist for more than 15 years. He’s been gardening and fascinated by unusual food plants, growing heirloom vegetables and foraging for nearly 30 years. Recently he’s started to seriously explore propagating and growing local Peninsula Strandveld and Fynbos edible, useful and ornamental plants that have not yet been brought into mainstream horticulture and use. As someone intimately familiar with the botanical diversity of South Africa he believes there is both enormous forgotten and unexplored culinary potential, but also very real flavour, safety, sustainability and economic challenges.
